We’ve been provided the opportunity to be included in a collaborative Channelside community art project endorsed by the city. Our plan is to have the project fully funded between a grant provided by Tampa Downtown Partnership & CDCA. Currently, the neighborhood artist we’re hoping to commission already has her artwork in the Grand Central courtyard, art studio on 11th Street, the Meridian, and is currently working on 80-foot mural on side of Maven Design on 11th, with Victory Lofts next in line. We hope to secure funds by this summer but already have concept art we’d like to share for your feedback/vote (below).
EXCERPT FROM TDP GRANT:
Mural to be created by local artist on south wall of 2-story lofts in Channel District. Concept art (attached) is extremely vivid and plays nicely with industrial architecture of our stark industrial building. With all the additional foot traffic and new Fitzgerald community on 12TH, the colorful pop art will definitely be a show-stopper for those passing by; both indicative of fast paced changes happening in neighborhood while keeping true to past arts district history. We are also asking for financial support from Channel District Community Alliance (CDCA) to help fund a portion of this community art project.
In keeping up with momentous changes in our neighborhood, we would like to offer up the corner of our building along 12TH St. as canvas to promote community art, providing some visual interest to passerby s on otherwise non-descript parking lot and dull facade. Our hope is that visibility accessible by street will help to slow traffic while also adding to vibrance of neighborhood for both residents and visitors.
